Stan Mathabane (they/he) is a sound designer // audio engineer //
music producer // actor // lyricist based in NYC, by-way of Portland, OR - the coastal opposite of their birthplace, High Point, NC.
Their recent design and performance credits include: A Thousand Ways (Under The Radar Festival @ The Public / Dublin Theatre Festival / + international tour), Jazz Singer at (off-broadway), The White Dress (off-broadway), A Dream Play (regional).
Stan holds a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Psychology and Theater from Princeton University. Before college, Stan’s passion for theatre and music landed them at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; playing saxophone on Esperanza Spalding’s Grammy award-winning album “Radio Music Society”; and studying at Berklee Music Conservatory (Summer Intensive).
At Princeton, Stan designed and performed two thesis productions. They composed original music for and starred as "William" in a production of Kenneth Lonergan’s “Lobby Hero” (dir. Mark Nelson | @ The Lewis Center for the Arts); and sound designed “A Dream Play” by August Strindberg (dir. Catherine Andre | @ The Berlind Regional Theater).
While living in New York City Stan worked full-time as a Stage Manager at Rockwood Music Hall in the Lower East Side; Audio-Engineered for local and touring artists; performed and recorded music with recording artist “Nathan Bajar”; DJ’ed parties in Brooklyn; and performed as a solo artist at venues around the Greater Northeast Area under their alias, “SunSon”.
Stan is also Founder/CEO of “SunSon Records LLC,” their Music Publisher Company that supports artists and organizations in the creation of radically authentic works that defy the perceived gravity of convention.
